adventure #4,692...
i’ve never been fired before. even though i hate hate hate this boat and was about to leave it anyway, getting fired sucks, oh excuse me, “let go”. please, no sugar-coating. so between last night around 8:30 and today at about 3:30 the stewardess and i met a group of 9 mid-twenties friends chartering a 50ft catamaran, started drinking with them on their boat, stole food from...
so this is what getting fired feels like...
please.
help.
yeah i got salmon, but it was some slammin’ salmon.
aaaaand...
i got an “absolutely perfect”. i’d say that is way above what i expected. the captain is even giving us $100 to go out to dinner! he said this was one of the best and easiest “going aways” he has ever had with one of the best outcomes. thaaaaaaaaaaank you very much. i’m getting steak tonight.
just not nice.
there is nothing like the horrible anticipation of your entire crew’s return, and then to have them not show up when they’re supposed to! we waited, tense and over-alert, for hours, looking over our shoulders and constantly checking the boat to see if there was something we overlooked. and instead of being worried about them we were just confused and not amused. then they have the...
things that happened
5 shots of patron leads to road rash on knee and bruise on cheek (don’t drink and run)
stewardess falls into water moving from little boat to big boat (not ours) with phone in pocket. damn. but oh. ma. gaw. how funny! (not drunk)
while boat riding to restaurant, friend hits mooring line with propeller.(not our boat) boat stalls, then we haul ass outta there. things worked out fine for...
note to self...
remember to check the fuel level in the boat before you take a 4 mile ride to a beach on another island. definitely, hands down, the most stressful ride to the beach ever. coming back was actually better, go figure. i don’t ever want to be in charge of a large boat and its accoutrements, especially when it’s owned by someone else. i guess i asked for more responsibility, but damn.
is this some kind of sick karmic joke?? seven whole days with no “parents” and it torrential down-pours all day, every day. so much for boat rides to the beach. and on top of that i wake up in the middle of the night from dreams of the boat flipping over. and at that point i have to go and make sure everything is secure, in the rain, in the middle of the night. i don’t like....
they left
and left me in charge, of a 100 foot motor yacht and a 27 foot tender. what to do?! the stewardess and i plan on taking boat rides to the beach every day. if all goes according to plan, which it probably won’t but one can dream, we have one week of this. i must also work, but, quoting the captain, “just work 6 hours a day, maybe get up at 9, work till noon, take a long lunch, go to...
so not only do we get 2 days off,
(and a grand 2 days it has been) we get a surprise extra day! and to think we were just about to check out of the hotel. silly girls. this time really makes it all worthwhile. well maybe not all, let’s not use our words hastily (‘our’ meaning me, i’m surely not calling you hasty). and you better believe i will enjoy every little bit of it, because as soon as we get back...
i just stared at that picture i just posted and i had to convince myself that that moment actually happened and i witnessed it. i assure you, after a few minutes thought, that this photo is not fake, in any way. it is very real and it does exist.
sometimes, it's nice.
i am laying on a double bed (which may seem ordinary, but if you sleep on a sliver of a mattress most of the time, it is a luxury), in a hotel, on st. thomas, on the beach, our (meaning my friend and crew mate, ashley) patio door is open, listening to the waves hit the beach, drinking expensive champagne, eating delicious room service, and i am about to take a BATH. yep, a BATH.
tomorrow, we...
this boat is...
like bootcamp. complete with the pain, the exhaustion, and the screaming officials. where’s that bell, i wanna stare at it real hard and think about ringing it.
new years eve was fun. really, it was. sometimes.
